Practice Safely Before Surgery

PeriopSim is an iPad app for surgical staff who need to learn surgical instruments and procedures. Using video of real surgeries and voice prompts, users are guided through a surgery and prompted to use the correct instrument at every step. Gamification techniques such as scoring and timed challenges motivate learners to practice and hone their skills. It is designed for both students and experienced perioperative nurses preparing for unfamiliar procedures.

Interact with Video of Real Surgeries

PeriopSim uses video of real surgeries to give a realistic learning experience. Procedures can be rehearsed safely step-by-step. Instrument modules enables students to learn surgery specific instrument sets. Surgeon narration adds an extra dimension and enables learning in more depth.

Test and Hone Your Skills

PeriopSim is a new mode of interactive learning. It uses gamification techniques such as scoring and timed challenges to motivate learning. Learners are challenged to hone their skills, rehearse procedures and achieve a higher score. PeriopSim also teaches anticipation, rewarding leaners who anticipate the next step.

Prepare for Unfamiliar Surgeries

PeriopSim is designed for both new students and experienced professionals. It can give new students more confidence and skill as they enter clinical orientation. It is also valuable for experienced nurses preparing for unfamiliar procedures. PeriopSim reduces stress by enabling staff to refresh skills before surgery, in a stress-free environment.

The old mantra of “See one, do one, teach one” is no longer applicable in surgical training. One of the biggest advantages of something like PeriopSim is the ability to stop and rewind. You can’t do that in real life.
